Description
St Louis Shag workshop with Cathy Harrison and Michael Joyce
Learn dancing St Louis Shag, a fun Swing dance that originated in St. Louis, Missouri, during the 1930s. It features a stationary, rhythm-driven basic step packed with sharp kicks, triple-steps and stomps. You can easily combine it with dancing Lindy Hop and Charleston. (Please note that this dance is very different from Collegiate Shag.)
This workshop is suitable for beginner dancers with no dance experience. No dance partner required.
Over three hours, Cathy and Michael will introduce you to the basic concepts and moves of St Louis Shag, building up the complexity as the workshop progresses. They will also teach how to bring St Louis Shag into your Lindy and Charleston dancing. After the class, we've got some time for practicing and social dancing and to ask the teachers any questions you didn't dare to pose during the class.
Cathy and Michael have been teaching Lindy Hop in Edinburgh for decades and continue running their own weekly classes. They also occassionally teach Tap Dance and love to dance Foxtrot. That said, St Louis Shag is their favourite dance, and they're absolutely thrilled to be able to teach it again in Edinburgh.
The concession rate is available to anyone on low income and to 2026 Edinbop members.
