Lindy Hop is an improvised partner dance that originated on the dancefloors of Harlem, New York in the 1920s-1940s, and is closely ties to the evolution of jazz music. It's a social dance where you get on the dance floor and connect with other people through the music with rhythms, groove, expression and improvisation.
This workshop will take you from the very basics, introducing rhythms, movements, and footwork. By the end of the two days, you'll be able to have confident, creative dances with anyone on the social dancefloor. There's no experience required and you don't need to sign up with a partner.
Lindy Hop is a partnered dance with a lead and a follow, and you'll be asked to choose one role to dance in this workshop. We like to think of the two roles, lead and follow, as being a rally car driving team. The lead is the navigator, who creates the framework for moves. Meanwhile, the follow is the driver, who makes the moves happen and keeps the dance going.
