Lindy Hop classes - January-February

Ticket sales for this event have closed.
Edinbop offers lindy hop classes for both beginners and improver/intermediate level dancers.

Swing Dancing

Lindy Hop and Charleston are swing dances originating in Black American communities through the 1920s-40s and were innovated with and are closely connected to the evolution of jazz music. They're social dances where you get on the dance floor and connect with other people through the music with rhythms, groove, expression and improvisation. Edinbop teaches classes focused on social dancing, mostly partnered (which Lindy Hop and Charleston are) and sometimes solo (which is also a huge part of the tradition).

Level 1 Fundamentals Classes

Our level 1 classes cover the fundamentals - if you're brand new, or have been dancing for a little while and would like to brush up on the basics, or you've learned one dance role and would like to learn the other, these classes will be perfect for you. If this is your first time swing dancing, our aim by the end of the 5 weeks is for you to feel good about getting on the floor and having a good time with the other members of our community!

There's no experience required and you don't need to sign up with a partner. Each 5-week block will begin from scratch - you can join the current block in either week 1 or week 2, but after that, we ask you to wait until a new block is about to begin.

New to Lindy Hop and not sure which role to sign up for? We like to think of the two roles, lead and follow, as being a rally car driving team. The lead is the navigator, who creates the framework for moves. Meanwhile, the follow is the driver, who makes the moves happen and keeps the dance going.

Level 2 Improver/Intermediate Classes

Our level 2 classes are aimed at dancers who are already comfortable with the fundamentals of Lindy Hop (including 8 count, 6 count and Charleston) and are looking to challenge themselves further. We expect you to have completed at minimum two L1 blocks before stepping up to this level - please speak to a teacher if you are unsure. These classes are drop-in, so you do not need to sign up for a block - but you can buy a ticket for the whole block if you wish.
